Research consulting : optimisation of container barge services at GPMM

Offering numerous hinterland services, the Port of Marseille Fos promotes modal shift, combining environmental quality and economic performance, one of the main subjects of its strategic plan.
In order to improve its inland waterways services, the port and its partners, the Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Voies Navigables de France, and the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône, have started a study, an extended research consulting, to optimise the container barges traffic in the western docks at Fos, 50% of which is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Rhône Plan.
The aim of this study
To define the technical, operational and economic means and methods in order to improve inland barge services and container transport in Fos.
Therefore, the aim is to develop the container traffic by inland waterways in the Rhône-Saône region and generate value for the port, its partners and its customers and also to develop the quality of inland waterways services.
